Transformation and Death of the Massive Industry.
The death and transformation of the industry began in 2001 with the creation of the first FabLab. Everything started there.
If we analyse the manufacturing model that emerged as a result of the industrial revolution, we see: Large factories that accumulate large investments to make large product runs.
Making use of economies of scale, a supply chain is logistically organised which, through the large distribution centres and large marketing chains, allows the consumer to be reached with products at very affordable prices, which in turn would trigger the consumption of the same.
This model generated a vicious circle of resource consumption, which meant that the only way to continue progressing was to continue destroying the planet.
Have we reached the point of no return? Are we in time to change this dynamic?
Homo sapiens has always distinguished himself by overcoming all the obstacles that have stood in his way, from the extinction of other Homos to fighting the most powerful animals and beasts.
Honestly, I don't think this is the reason for our extinction and we will surely be able to overcome this great challenge ahead.
It will no doubt be a before and after in our way of living and consuming.
Opportunity for new manufacturing models.
If we analyse the traditional industry value chain, we see that more than 50% of the value accumulates in the tasks of the marketing department. Product creation, distribution and promotion accumulate most of the costs. So we conclude that the tasks of supply, manufacturing and general costs do not create a differential value in companies.
The platform business model, emerged in recent years, which uses technology to connect manufacturers of goods and services with consumers, disrupting the value chain and emerging new sources of value that are distributed among the actors.
This leads us to ask ourselves: Will we move from platforms for the exchange of goods and services to platforms for the creation of goods and services? From exchange to creation.
The Moore Law is taking place in the Fablab environment, the number of digital manufacturing workshops doubles every year and a half, which means that in 10 years its figure will be millions, in 20 years of billions and in 30 years of trillions.
On the other hand, the boom of product design programs, facilitating access to a growing community, makes the transformation is served, and within 20 years the crossing of the volume of local manufacturing with mass manufacturing is inevitable.
Faberin Believes
We believe in design as a source of value and in designers as interpreters of an increasingly urban and technological consumer. Only they will be able to respond to these needs in a sustainable and appropriate way in the consumption of resources. The power of design.
We believe in a more kind life in the return of the factory worker. Moving to a more habitable environment, where creativity emerges and they can value their skills. We are facing a new era of artisans and makers who will be the protagonists of commerce in the coming decades.
We believe in an environment model that is sustainable, where the consumption of resources is appropriate, reducing the consumption of logistics and raw materials, cutting stocks and making noble materials, recyclable, biodegradable, etc., the protagonists.
And above all, we believe in people, we believe in the talent that, connected to a network of local manufacturers, craftsmen and makers, and thanks to technology, will produce exponential results.
Lonelamp is one of the designs that represents all our values and beliefs. It is inspired by the life of a refugee who seeks his place in the world and who has the ability to illuminate our lives. Javier Mañas designer and manufacturer of this lamp collaborates with the NGO Open Arms with this design.
How does Faberin work?
Designers can upload their designs and establish how much they want to earn from each sale, their royalties. At Faberin, we believe that talent should be rewarded and we don't believe in Open Source design, in this article we explain why.
The local manufacturers, craftsmen and makers, add the price and the delivery time, so that the product is ready for sale. Thus, we have the example of Kenny, designed by Juanny Barcelo, and put on sale by 3D Cheese in just 48 hours.
Consumers have access to a catalogue of exclusive designs that grows daily. So they can choose the design and also the maker that will make it, depending on the proximity and other specific needs.
Faberin concentrates the tasks of technological development and promotion at the service of its community. Thus, through our platform, we can connect the three communities we target: designers, local manufacturers and consumers.
Mission: To convert a design into a product for sale globally and in just three clicks.
Vision: Digitalise the process of creation and manufacture of any product. Can you imagine a solar car, autonomous, manufactured locally?
What does distributed design contribute?
Local manufacture and made on demand. These two concepts so simple and a-priori so modest, involve the transformation of an entire economic model developed over the last 100 years, where the only thing that has imported have been the economic costs without including environmental costs.
What makes us different from other platforms?
The communities of local designers and manufacturers, that connected and thanks to technology, will allow us to have exponential results. It will allow us to create the largest catalogue of products of exclusive designs, manufactured on demand, in an efficient way and consuming the least amount of resources seen so far.
How do we envision the future?
Faberin as a connection point for new technologies at the service of our community of designers, local manufacturers and consumers.
The blockchain as a secure and reliable means of transaction, which will allow us to guarantee the royalties of our designers, the industrial property of designs, traceability of products, authenticating raw materials, components, allowing guarantees, waste evaluation, etc..
RV and AR as tools for manufacturers and consumers, facilitating the visualisation of designs and finished products, locating components and finished products.
The IoT, by means of the necessary electronic components, will be able to convert each of the manufactured products into a connected product. A community of connected products?
We believe in a more efficient production model, with better use of resources and a better balance of wealth. Faberin is ready.
